Terms and conditions
Conditions for CheckTau’s public website, staff area, mobile apps and passes.
The service and its use
The public website is at https://checktau.com, with a staff area at https://app.checktau.com and iOS and Android apps. It helps manage participants, groups, events, attendance and notices. The identification details at the end of this page identify the controller of parish personal data. The service does not integrate purchases, payment collection or public account registration. Each organisation sets registration and participation conditions for its activities; a pass does not replace them.
Staff accounts
Only authorised staff may use internal functions. Use your own account, limit access to your duties and protect your device and credentials. Replace the temporary password before accessing protected functions. From Profile on the website or Settings in the mobile apps, you can change your password and close sessions. If you suspect unauthorised access, notify the organisation and close all sessions. When your authorisation ends, stop accessing the service and ask for the account to be reviewed.
Temporary links and passcodes
Use only the link and passcode supplied for the relevant person. They expire and have limited attempts. Successful verification consumes the link even if an interruption prevents the pass being displayed. Do not guess passcodes or use other people’s data. If you do not receive the pass or the link expires or locks, ask the team for a new one; do not automatically repeat an operation with an uncertain outcome.
Saving and presenting the QR
Check the name and save the PNG before leaving. The QR identifies the participant: it is not anonymous, is not tied to a single event and does not necessarily expire with the link. Do not publish or lend it. Obtaining, displaying or scanning it without confirming check-in does not record attendance; authorised staff do this. If it is lost or disclosed, ask the organisation to review and, where appropriate, replace the credential.
Wallets and external services
Apple Wallet and Google Wallet are optional where enabled and depend on the device, account and provider. Issuance links work while valid and must not be shared. CheckTau does not automatically remove or update a saved pass. Replacing the QR may invalidate the old code without deleting its copy. The PNG remains available as an alternative. Sharing through another app discloses the content to the selected service and recipient.
Records and communications
Staff must review and correct data according to their permissions. Payment or registration status is an entry, not a charge or bank receipt. Expected lists, states and notices are generated from records and may need human review. A missing check-in does not prove physical absence; recording a check-in does not make the recorder an attendee. Emails may be delayed, fail or remain unread.
Availability and recovery
Connection, device, maintenance or provider issues may interrupt the service. If an outcome is uncertain, check the state or ask the team before repeating an operation that changes data or sends email. If the connection is interrupted while recording attendance, check with the team that the check-in was saved. Keep your pass and ask the organisation for help. CheckTau is not an emergency, location-tracking or child-monitoring system.
Permitted use and rights
Do not impersonate others, access other people’s data, distribute credentials or alter records without authorisation. Do not automate access to bypass permissions or disrupt the service. A public screen does not authorise intrusion testing. Using CheckTau does not transfer rights to branding or content; software and third-party licences remain effective. These terms do not exclude legal obligations or non-waivable rights, including data protection rights.
Changes and contact
The date identifies this version. Changes will be published with the information remaining accessible and applicable rights respected. Ask the team about activities, records and accounts. Support handles technical issues, and the privacy contact handles personal data requests. Browsing does not replace consent that may be required for a particular purpose.
